Intern Avenue is an on-line platform which connects employers seeking to hire high quality interns using matching technology. The founder of the company was selected to appear on the television show Dragon's Den, and wanted to be sure that the website would withstand increased traffic as a result of this exposure, but within tight budgetary constraints.
We worked with the development team to identify any potential issues and optimise performance in the application and the database. We migrated the server set up onto a multi-server, load-balanced infrastructure hosted with a leading service provider, eradicating all single points of failure. We created a custom architecture based on tried and tested software solutions for configuration management, monitoring and backup coordination.
Using media industry data, we built a capacity model for expected web traffic, and validated the performance of the platform against that using basic load testing tools. To accelerate the site, we installed software and tuned it so that static content could be delivered efficiently from cache at high levels of concurrently. The Dragon's Den appearance was a success, with the site delivering 100% availability.
The Scale Factory were recommended to me by my tech advisor.
It was clear that they had thorough knowledge about server infrastructure and took time to understand the business and financial objectives of the company. They have been very supportive in coming up with solutions which match our business needs but are also scalable - we sometimes get press and television exposure so the ability to withstand traffic spikes is important.
Our experience with The Scale Factory has been very positive. We consider them to be an extension of our development team. They are always on hand to assist whenever we need them and have been a great support to us.
